To be honest, I’m not a huge romantic comedy reader, but I picked this up as a palette cleanser.  That said, I felt like it was light and fun. I didn’t find the characters and their relationships to be deeply compelling nor did I connect with them that much, but it was a nice beach read. I think that’s to be expected from an Emily Henry novel. Regardless, I think I preferred Book Lovers better from the Emily Henry universe.

what book that I reviewed in the past year hasn't been weirdly tied to a bad time in my life lol. The story for this one, involves a me owning this book since the year it was released, a friendship breakup, my book being stolen. The highlight of this being that I would have owned this book of upwards of four years and am finally getting to it.
I was motivated to finally read this due to the movie coming out and also more compelled realizing that the fall equinox was approaching and what better what to OFFICALLY end the summer.

I really like Poppy as a character, and I shared a lot of her insecurities and felt represented by her in some ways. I thought the banter between Alex and Poppy was really great and the character came off the page when they were together.

I don't know if the book could have benefited from being dual POV because I haven't read many romances in that format; however, I will say that at times, Alex read as flat to me, and perhaps getting more insight into how he felt at times would have aided to bringing his character to life more.

I wasn't in love with the third act breakup, it made sense but I think the reunion was kinda corny so I could have done without it at the same lol.

Overall, I really enjoyed this love story, and I related heavily to Poppy as a character and that added a lot for me, kinda toggles between a 3.75 and 4. I'm excited to this adapted to the screen and see Badger (my lady jane) bring Poppy to life.

also, on one more note, it's fucking crazy that I really finished this book at all this time.

AHHHHH
Immaculate vibes. Cute story and I loved the summer setting with the holidays. I would have preferred a more chronological order rather than the back and forth.

An excellent portrayal of a deep friendship out of which blossoms a romance. Poppy and Alex are friends not just through the nice and pretty, but through the ugly and difficult as well. It makes their love so much more obvious and believable, and any hurt caused so much more real. An easy 5 star.
