A great collection of short stories from various authors.
only read olivie’s and ml rio’s - the stories were fun, if a little undeveloped. i would’ve liked it much better if they’d been longer and had provided some structural clarity, but eitherway, they were pretty solid character studies, especially for this length. olivie’s in particular felt so much more distinctive, and was such a remarkable read. Really struggled to get into this book. Normally this would be right up my alley but I found the stories unappealing. The only one I liked was the one the collection draws its name from.
My rating for every story:
1000 Ships 3\5
Pythia 4/5 (first time liking something from Olivie Blake)
Sabbatical 2/5
The Hare and the Hound 5/5
X House 4/5
The Ravages 4/5
Four Funerals 3/5
The Unknowable Pleasures 4/5
Weekend at Berties 5/5 (bought this because of M.L. Rio, would read her shopping lists tbh)
The Professor of Ontography 5/5
Phobos 4/5
Playing 3/5
That make an average rating of 3.8, I rounded up to a 4 star.
