A really enjoyable anthology of dark academia with a bit of a spooky atmosphere, perfect for reading during the autumn/winter months. I enjoyed the majority of the stories with just a couple a bit neither here nor there, and a couple that I wasn't keen on at all. My favourites were 1000 Ships, The Hare and the Hound, and The Unknowable Pleasures.
Here are my ratings for each of the short stories:
- 1000 Ships by Kate Weinberg 4.5
- Pythia by Olivie Blake 4
- Sabbatical by James Tate Hill 2.5
- The Hare and the Hound by Kelly Andrew 4.5
- X House by J T Ellison 4
- The Ravages by Layne Fargo 4.5
- Four Funerals by David Bell 3
- The Unknowable Pleasures by Susie Yang 4.5
- Weekend at Bertie's by M L Rio 2
- The Professor of Ontography by Helen Grant 3.5
- Phobos by Tori Bovalino 4
- Playing by Phoebe Wynne 3

def liked some stories more than others. most were kinda meh
1000 ships; honestly pretty forgettable, didnt really care.
pythia; confusing tbh idk if it was just me but like i didnt really get it. i did like the idea of sentient algorithms having mental illness tho.
sabbatical; yeah also forgettable. also like didnt understand the end.
the hare and the hound; one of my favourites, really liked the plot and vibe
x house; didnt really like it much im not sure why
the ravages; it was okay!
four funerals; uhhh yeah no the school shooter thing was kinda weird..
the unknowable pleasures; didnt like, it was just weird to me
weekend at berties; was so excited to read more m.l rio but this was boring af plot wise
the professor of ontography; also one of my favs, poor charlie
phobos; yeah pretty interesting
playing; quite predictable but i will say that the writing was pretty nice
a lot of them weren't dark academia, but this book did expose me to some new authors that i'd like to read more from.

I loved *most* the writing, but this made me realize I just don’t like short stories 😂 but it did give me a few new authors I want to look up.
I was expecting something a little different, but I can’t quite peg what that is. I think I wanted a little more “academia” than “dark,” and it was certainly more “dark.”
