The characters are frustratingly immature and childish, especially Olivia. She blamed everyone but herself for her problems. She slept in someone else’s bed without permission, drank a €400 sealed bottle of tequila without asking, cooked and then left the kitchen a mess, and even lied about having kids to get a job. Common, she’s 25 years old and it seems like her frontal lobe is not fully developed. Honestly, I doubt it ever will.
TL;DR: Overall, it is a cute, fun read, with some real heart, but if you don't like these tropes (clumsy girl/type a boy, you've got mail retelling, 3rd act break-up) I would skip.
Actual Rating: 3.5/5
This was a charming read, though it did have some pitfalls. It is essentially a retelling of "You've Got Mail" the two love interests beginning texting after a misdial. The texting relationship never felt forced, but slightly awkward, one moment talking about random thoughts and then "What's your favorite sex position?" ?? Jumping the gun a little... Also the guy says that his favorite is missionary but that it would be boring for her to say missionary was her favorite ?? Wha-at ??
The female main character Olivia suffers from the trope of "wild, clumsy mess-of-a-girl" who is described as "so alive, so filled with the energy of the moment, that occasionally there is a little collateral damage." Manic pixie dream girl has entered the chat. While the love-interest, Colin, gets to be the serious, basically perfect, has-it-all-together guy. AND Colin is the one to figure out Olivia is "Miss Misdial" (points for punny wordplay) and then instead of telling her, he just holds onto this information, creating a major power imbalance that does bite him in the ass. And there is this class difference between the love interests that is inferred but never addressed...?? And it seemed like Olivia and Colin had some past relationship trauma, but it is barely addressed and I think it would've added to the characters to discuss their past dating experiences. And SPOILER there is a 3rd act break up, so if you don't like that trope, skip this book.
The book does have some redeeming qualities, mainly the tension between the love interests. There is this enemies to lovers dynamic and it was very satisfying when they finally kissed :) The writing is witty and intriguing and the pacing was excellent. The ending really made this book, because after all of the turmoil between the characters, the ending felt well-deserved, I may have teared-up a little bit.
I also appreciated towards the end when it is revealed that maybe Colin isn't as put together as he appears and that Olivia begins to grow into adulthood, because at 25 she really is just a young girl trying to get her life together.

Cute story! Olivia Marshall’s life is a bit of a mess when she moves in with her brother, Jack, for a month to get her life back together. However, his roommate is none other than Jack’e childhood best friend and her childhood nemesis, Colin Beck. At the same time, Olivia receives a text from a wrong number which turns into a lively back and forth with none other than…Colin! Aside from the strangely high number of times the word “pervert” is used I really enjoyed this book

Sassy, simple, sensational. All words to describe Lynn Painter’s Mr. Wrong Number. This captivating rom-com was everything I desire for a 5-star read. Between the witty conversations both via text and in person and the indescribable chemistry, these characters made the book the masterpiece it is.
Perhaps my favorite thing about this book was the realistic setting and relationships the characters had. Our female main character, Olivia is known for having extremely bad luck (she burned down an apartment complex by accident) and while the situations she is put in are horribly embarrassing, they all make sense and could happen to anyone on a daily basis.
Another aspect I love is the humorous banter between Olivia and our male main character, Colin. Never once did I read something that made me cringe or feel cliche. Every word felt organic and special and I believe that is the beauty in ALL of Lynn Painter’s captivating novels.
I would recommend this book to seasoned romance readers who are looking for a light fluffy romance with captivating story lines. This book is written in such a beautiful way and I think having read books that aren’t written this well made me enjoy it even more. There is some sexually explicit content but it is a door half closed romance so nothing too intense or heavy. There is also a second act breakup, so if you do not enjoy those aspects in a novel then I suggest looking into another one of Lynn Painter’s amazing books.
very cute ! but it didn’t feel like a standout - the relationship progressed in a fun way and their banter was always interesting but i felt the characters were a bit underwhelming
