LGBTQ and time travel - mixed together?

Rather good this, and a great 'mash up' of genres.

There's a lot of time travel fiction out there, for every age group, and to place a same-sex love story in one seemed, to me anyway, refreshing. It gave things a different perspective.

In contemporary America, an aspiring medical student fresh from his life-saving liver transplant finds he has travelled back in time 50 years. To a very different world, meeting a very different young man, to whom he is instantly attracted.

But of course, the present soon pulls him back, and an explanation of sorts is on hand - his new liver came from a family with the ability to travel in time. Yes you must suspend disbelief. Andre has to, as it's going to happen again, and without the donor's brother to teach Andre how to control this ability, he could be in trouble.

The scene is then set for some interesting conversations about same-sex treatment in 1969 versus today, and of course an inevitable love triangle.

Some of the journey through this story is fairly obvious, I knew the eventual path that would be taken, but I did enjoy the male-only love story, how relationships were built and wondering just how things would end - knowing that with a time travel story we would most likely know long-term effects on characters.

Good teen fare, something a little different. Not as fun as Back to the Future, but enough heart to move. Enjoyed the audiobook version, not a problem to keep up with the story.

With thanks to Nudge Books for providing a sample Audible copy.

2.5 stars - fast and easy read. Unfortunately, this one was not for me. I felt like the rules for time travelling were very vague and the time difference (1h in the past being 1 min in the present, but the days did not add up to this) didn't make sense to me. The romance was rushed and lacked explanation as to how they fell in love. This book is romance based and not plot based, so nothing really happens... I'm glad I read it tho bcs it was on my tbr for a while.

Easy breezy YA love triangle with time travel assisted by organ donation.

Yep, it sure sounds weird, but it's one of those books that if you don't think about it too hard and just go with it, it kind of works. A lot doesn't hold up to close scrutiny, but the heart of the plot mostly worked. Like any decent sci-fi it posed some solid "What if ... ?" questions, even if the execution was a little rushed.

Andre is a recent recipient of a liver transplant, but  when he is suddenly transported back to 1970 he realizes that the liver belonged to a teenager who had time travel abilities. As he begins to develop feelings for a boy in the past, he doesn't know how to let him go in order to not disrupt the future.

What a fun read. Time travel is not necessarily a theme that I am drawn towards, but I love to read YA queer love stories so I decided to try out this quick audio. I really enjoyed the characters in this, even though at times it felt like the love triangle didn't have enough meat behind it to be believable... Almost as if the relationships came out of nowhere. I never say this, but I think this could've benefitted from a bit more relationship development to make the choice that the MC has to make more emotional. Regardless, I really enjoyed this and I'm excited to read more from Kosoko Jackson.
