Mes théories étaient à 95% vraies mais même si je ne suis toujours pas toujours fan de l'écriture, j'ai trouvé celui-ci moins lourd sur la romance... ce qui m'a plus, of course!

We have spent the last seven books in this series travelling the world with the seven sisters Pa Salt has gathered together. In this instalment, we get to retrace those journeys through the eyes of the man himself, the infamous Pa Salt, alternatively known as Atlas. As we step through his history, we come to understand how special each of his daughters were, as we encounter their heritage again through Pa's eyes, and how they each touch on his own journey through his life.
It's a beautiful story, full of fear, hope, and penultimately love, as we understand how Atlas' life meant nothing without love.
However, there's a sense of loss in the words. There's a detachment in the telling. We know this will never be the story Lucinda Riley herself dreamed of writing. While the story is all her own, the words are her sons, and there is a detachment while reading as you come to understand this.
I have loved each of these sisters' stories, and the connection across continents and histories and culture is exquisite to read. Seeing it all from Pa Salt's perspective does add to this. Seeing how all the characters come together to form a bigger picture, the story of his life, but I also worry that the story told, is not the story intended, which is why I cannot give it 5 stars.
I love this series with my whole heart. I love these characters and their individual and connected journey. But as I said, there is a sense of loss from the opening page, which is only heightened as we turn the last. Just as we mourn Pa Salt through this series, we now mourn Lucinda and the story she planned to tell. Which, only fittingly, has a few surprises along the way.
Now all that is left to say: Adieu, cheri.

Mooier had ik het me niet voor kunnen stellen. Het heeft even geduurd voor ik me tot dit achtste deel kon zetten, maar ben heel blij dat ik het nu eindelijk deels gelezen, deels geluisterd heb.
Ik was vooraf bang dat het tegen zou vallen, en dat Lucinda’s stijl niet meer herkenbaar zou zijn nu het laatste deel in de serie die zij ooit begon, vanwege haar overlijden door haar zoon afgeschreven zou worden. Maar daar is m.i. niets van te merken. Alle verhaallijnen komen samen in dit laatste deel. Ongelooflijk knap. Ik kan dan ook alleen maar vol lof zijn en de volle vijf sterren geven.
