The Chic Diet

A off-hand, satirical tell-all on early twenty-first century diet (eating disorder) culture. An amusing read for those stable and curious, a handbook in the wrong hands. Other reviews have left me concerned for both the reading comprehension and mental states of many readers. But then, of course, I suppose only a certain type of person is interested in this kind of material.

To quote one review by user darlingdove:
I think the ethics of this book are debatable but if reading this makes you go on cocaine that might be a you problem

i wasn't really sure what to rate this one but here we go.
this was hilarious but not haha-funny, more like haha-so-relatable-its-sad kinda way. there were parts in which i forgot it was satire and would be like omg totes. it reads like a handbook while still showing judgment towards those who indulge in the behaviors described.
it took me almost a week to read, not because i lost interest, but because it was very triggering. i had to space out my reading sessions so as to not spiral. it's both a comforting and discomforting book if that makes sense.
anyway, basically tread carefully with this book.

súper divertit i penós. 10/10 would NOT recommend

the bible is over 700,000 words but the chic diet is only 193 this is so unfair to girls everywhere

I think the ethics of this book are debatable but if reading this makes you go on cocaine that might be a you problem

I am so fascinated by the existence of this book. Who is kit olsen? This is the only book she's published, and it is basically an unironic guide on how to develop an eating disorder, to the point where I was embarrassed about anyone looking over my shoulder while reading it. I mean it is satire, but it's also a meticulously detailed, glamorizing and encouraging guide to keep up disordered behavior. Specific brands of prescription drugs, juice cleanses, especially the section about muesli bars left me thinking I was reading genuinely instructional material. I mean it is a fascinating read but only if you are 100% recovered from your eating disorder (and if you've never had an eating disorder, I don't think this will be interesting at all). Idk.?
