Can't wait for the second book. While Eva was slightly annoying, it was refreshing to read a character who wasn't so "innocent".
Dear God. I don't think I have the language to fully articulate how much I hated this book. The characters are all materialistic, dysfunctional assholes (& in Cary's case, with seemingly no moral compass). Eva & Gideon only relate to each other sexually. At the beginning of their relationship--such as it was, based entirely on sex--he'd do something boorish & she'd wig & leave. She has an incredibly traumatic past (as does he) yet she's having sex with a virtual stranger. What exactly did she think was going to happen? I seriously considered abandoning this book about halfway through, but it's so popular that surely there just HAS to be that moment when they redeem themselves. Not really. He dismisses her objections to his behavior as "stupid." She's afraid of him but eventually refuses to leave. Maybe that moment will be in the sequel. I don't know & I don't care.
I guess you get what you signed up for with this book. Lots of sex moments with an idiotic plot. Like who goes to couples therapy after maybe 2 weeks of dating
I don't have any experience with other books of this genre to compare this story to. But I felt strongly drawn in to the story and fell in love with the characters. The writing style wasn't all that bad, much better than 50 shades of grey.
It was too many sex scenes and problematic characters with abusive controlling tendencies. Left a icky taste in my mouth
If you're jonesing for something Fifty Shades-ish....this will fit the bill. :-)
Wasn't a huge romance fan until FSoG, and didn't expect to like BtY. Who names their kid Gideon?? However, a friend highly recommended it, and I developed my second crush (first Christian Grey, second Gideon Cross). At times I felt that this was SD's way of re-writing FSoG without the BDSM; there were parts that I felt were a complete rip off. That being said, I did enjoy Eva and Gideon and want to know more about them and see where they end up. I'm eager for June 2013 so I can get my hands on EwY.
