I am not a huge fan of erotic sub dom romance, but I can testify that it is true that this book is much better written than Fifty Shades, if not a little too reminiscent. It is also true that the characters are not as lame, ooops, I mean that there is better character development. However, I feel pretty disappointed by the non-ending. For example, you can’t just take a well developed secondary character, give him a change of face, and end the book with no resolution. I feel like this book was literally cut off at an acceptable length so that another book or two (I haven’t looked) could be made into a series - disappointed enough to lower my star rating.

I have no words for how amazing this book was. From the beginning to the end I was hooked on both Gideon and Ava. I enjoyed seeing how these two damaged people tried to make things work. Not to mention Gideon Cross is a dirty man! Oh my goodness, I just couldn't believe how dirty this mans mouth was! I mean wow. Not only that but if there was a character whose dominance like...leaked out of pages in attempts at breaking the fourth wall, then it's definitely Gideon Cross!! Watching these two (and Carey) go through the doubts and craziness that is life has been great. I mean there is probably no other character that I relate to more the Ava, in a lot of her reactions to situations. I can't wax poetic enough about this book. I can't wait to read the next one in this series which technically won't be a re-read. It will be the first time that I will read the second book. I definitely feel a hangover coming on after this one.
The spice in this book was top tier. I mean it was literal perfection. I don't think I've read a book that I could say that the spice was perfection. This one was it. 100 out of 5. Overall, this book manages to mix the spice and the story together amazingly well. It tells the story of two people are carrying a lot of baggage but want to be better for each other. I love that for them. They both have things that they use as crutches emotionally but with each other they are able to learn and heal from them. I liked that it showed that therapy can be a positive thing. Ava definitely uses it often and you can see how she is able to employ the things that she has learned into her real life. It also helps you to see how some of the behaviors that we might use ourselves can be damaging to someone who might have our coping mechanism as their trigger. I'm not saying that they were perfect in their actions but it definitely shows how they were able to use the tools that they were given to help not only themselves but each other. I would HIGHLY recommend this series. It has the perfect balance of being smutty with telling you a story. I loved it.
It was nice to see a more balanced couple. You could definitely describe this as being more on the female friendly side. I think this book is so popular because the characters are flawed and yet they agree to work their issues out. I learned so much about what readers are interested in. Good read if you want to research the genre.
Whew! This book is HOT! I picked it up after being recommended it by a 50 shades fan group. It is amazing. This book has some similarities to 50 shades but I liked it more than those books honestly.
We start off with Eva a pretty well off college grad who just moved halfway across the country (Cali-NYC). She is staring a new job in a building called Crossfire and meets the amazing Gideon Cross.
This book is amazing. Full of great sex scenes and some decent plot points. We really get to see how two people with a troubled past can work through their problems. I think this book was a wonderful build up to what could possibly come in the next book.
This book was a lot of build up! If you aren't a big fan of build up in a novel then you may not like this book. I loved it. It's an amazing book and the scenes are lovely.
I highly recommend it if you are looking for something similar to 50.

Audible Review: While I do think this narrator is good, there was one issue I had that makes me very glad that I read this book first. I cringed a lot with this narrators version of Gideon. I had absolutely no issues with her doing any other character and thought she was very good, except for her Gideon. I'm finding not many women narrators can read the male role and let me get lost in the words and not how they are trying to sound like a man.
Story Review: The Hero in books are what makes or breaks a story for me most of the time. Gideon is absolutely the reason why I rate this book 5 stars. I absolutely love how obsessed he was with Ava. The way the author described his reaction when he sees her for the first time had me hooked. I like that he took one look at her and knew she was a game changer for him. Especially when we find out he was emotionally untouchable before her. Does that make him perfect? No. He does a couple things I didn't like but I had no doubt of his feelings for Ava and that is what I like to read about.
I can not say the same for Ava. Granted, I am probably harder on the female roles but I have a harder time when the heroine overreacts, pushes away too much and doesn't stand up for herself when it truly counts. I felt she did all of this in this book.
These characters are definitely flawed but I do think that is why so many readers are drawn to them. Despite being frustrated with Ava, I loved reading the times when these two were doing good. I also understand the necessity of having them in disagreements to show them working out the issues and how they came back together stronger.
This will have triggers for some readers. Both main characters have been abused in their pasts and part of their struggles is dealing with the past abuse and how they support each other.
