Eh
I’ll probably read the second installment, but it was just meh. The characters aren’t realistic, but it’s not like I read these books for the characters or the plot lol

WAY better writing than 50 Shades. I wasn't a fan of them hooking up after she told him about her past. I also hope she stops freaking running away in future books.

It may be quite similar to 50 shades at the beginning but it's a whole different fucked-up-errotica-novel. It's good though! Every page is on fire! :))

this is my first romance book with one pov. and I hated it. Thoughts and emotions are often recycled — Eva repeatedly thinks about how sexy Gideon is, how “dark” he is, how much she wants to run but can’t. Eva’s narrative voice feels generic.

Their relationship makes zero sense on a logical level . It was so chaotic omd. One you have to ignore that all of this is happening in a short span of time , so their obsession with each other is unrealistic. and Two , the writing is mid. There are moments where Sylvia leans into real vulnerability — trauma, power dynamics, control — but they're quickly buried under layers of lust and possessiveness.I'd recommend you read when you're ovulating.

2 stars for bad writing
questions left unanswered and plot - too many plot holes. characters introduced once then we never hear from them again. ie. Christopher. I thought he would be a villain then we just never hear from him again.

the book had no plot. nothing was happening. it's very couple centric. from beginning to end.

Eva has no life outside of Gideon. I mean she does Krav Maga and goes to the gym but where are your hobbies? Your goals? Your friends? Even her job fades into the background unless Gideon is causing drama or giving her a reason to spiral.Every emotional beat revolves around how he’s making her feel or what he’s doing or not doing.

Even her moments of “leaving” him aren’t about real separation — they’re tests, tantrums, or power plays.

The story jumps rapidly between sex, fights, makeups, and trauma reveals. There’s little downtime or emotional processing between major events, which flattens the impact of what should be intense moments. The book constantly uses intimacy as a stand-in for trust or communication. There’s no processing, no cooling off . I cant even tell you why theyre so attached to each other and I'VE READ THE BOOK

Ugh. Didn't realize how similar to 50 shades this was.

I enjoyed this, but I just don't get why Eva was so special to Gideon at the beginning. I feel like had this been explored more thoroughly, it would have made the payoff more satisfying.
tense slow-paced
