I appreciated this not just because it gave me a fuller idea of who JVN is as a person but because I think we so often have this idea that people with positive and effervescent personalities don't have complexity or trauma or don't have to work to have that kind of attitude. What JVN shares is that the compassion and self-love he shows is something he works at, that it isn't always perfect, and that it is something that we all can work at and is a lifelong journey.
I love you, JVN! And all your parts! Proud to have finally found and call you my celebrity doppelgänger. You are a true gem and sharing yourself and your truth make the world better.

This works well as an audio book but Van Ness is a performer more than a writer, so I am not sure it would have held me in print.
I already thought JVN was the bee's knees, but after reading this I love them even more, largely for the mahoosive honesty and bravery they've written this book with.
It was an intense read, with very heavy serious subject matter in many chapters, but I read this book in just a few days.

I LOVE memoirs. I find it fascinating to hear people talk about their lives. This is one of the better memoirs I have read. Raw, honest, classy, and sassy. JVN brings it, honey.
