Hard to read at times, but definitely important to know the history behind the eternally optimistic jvn! Writing style was a little hard to follow, but I appreciate that he had the courage to share his story.

A beautiful story that sheds light on the modern lgbt experience. JVN has triumphed over mountains of prejudice and addiction to be a sunbeam of a person that we should all aspire to be more like.
The things little baby face jack has overcome is inspiring. Loved that this was read by the author. My respect and admiration for JVN has only grown as it is so brave to be so transparent about the hard, heavy stuff.
Listened to the audible version which was read by JVN. He is not a great writer but I enjoyed hearing his story and I admire him for allowing himself to be vulnerable as he shares his journey. It makes me appreciate JVN even more.
4.5. What an unbelievable story of courage and overcoming adversity. I appreciated how honest Jonathan was with all of the topics he covered, and I love how he used his platform to shed light on topics that are typically left in the shadows.

If you didn’t read the audiobook, did you even read it?
3.5* The audiobook is definitely the way to go because I’m not sure how JVN’s writing voice would’ve translated on paper had I been reading it via a physical book or ebook.
I wish it was less a life overview and more delved deeper into specific stories (like the Bobby prank story- so good). At times the writing felt a little chaotic (I'm sure JVN would be like "You're telling ME honey! I had to live it"). Ultimately though I do feel like I got to know JVN better and he asks in his book "If you knew all the sides to me, would you still want to be my friend?" And without even having to think about it, I know that "yes Jonathan. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I am here for it and your brutal honesty is admirable and beautiful. I would unquestionably still want to be your friend.
The real raw story of Jonathan Van Ness's life so far.
I really enjoyed reading it, the way he writes is the way he talks which for a book like this I appreciate. When he talks about his experiences he isn't overly graphic and he just says it like it is. I haven't read the other Queer Eye member's books so I can't compare this one to them. But I enjoyed reading it, even if it did hurt my heart to learn of all the trauma he's endured.
