Audiobook is the way to go!

If you enjoy JVN, you’ll enjoy this book. It was so much in his voice that I could almost hear him reading it to me.

There was a lot of heavy content in this book, so be aware of that before you dive in!

I really enjoyed learning more about JVN and his journey. My only dislike was that I often got lost and then distracted in his references which I had to push through. But it’s still a great read!! AND the behind the scenes Queer Eye stuff was fantastic.

What a treat--funny and charming, but also moving and heartbreaking. I would find myself crying and then a few minutes later, laughing out loud. My favorite parts? The essay about Bill Clinton! The Russian pseudonyms! And, you know, also learning JVN's backstory.

Must be experienced as an audiobook.

I absolutely adored the Olympic shoutouts! My belly hurts from laughing… and yet, the book ended with me in tears overJVN’s discussion about his quilt of empowering women. (I instantly thought of what would be on my own — how about you?) This book is not lighthearted. JVN has been seen some shit! Loved this book.

Meh. I love Johnathan on Queer eye, not so much as a writer. His story is not without tribulations and haunting trama however JVN as the narrator sounded like he was telling someone else story, reading off a highschool report in front of the class. I wouldn't say a waste of time because no one story is but I'll just say it wasn't my favorite memoir to read.

I think a great deal of my enjoyment from this book came from my low expectations. I am pretty done with books about reality TV stars, comedians, etc. I've also listened to an episode of JVN's podcast and he was all over the place and I had a hard time following him. Well, JVN got a great editor, because he really shone through in this book. I thought it was easy to read, well thought out in terms of organization, and is a story of constant striving. Great beach read.

I am going to put the bottom line right up front: if you love JVN and Queer Eye, you’ll love this book! ⁣

I thoroughly enjoyed learning the “behind the scenes” of how Jonathan came to be who the public knows as JVN, from his background in small town Illinois to becoming a hair dresser to the casting of Queer Eye. ⁣

I also really appreciate his willingness to share his story truthfully — it is vulnerable and I know it will make countless people feel less alone. ⁣
