I wanted to like this, I really did. I was excited to see myself (trans in a gay relationship) represented in fiction. But I just could not connect with the characters. Nothing wrong with the writing, the sex scenes were handled with care but I just couldn’t connect with the characters and I’m so sad about it.

Also, every time I read a novel written in third person I do remember how much I dislike third person

Phenomenal representation across the board. I'm so glad this book is out in the world!

That said, I was so confused by the third act. I'm not a big sports person but I'm pretty sure you don't just move people into pitcher position on a whim. Also is Gene supposed to be good or bad? He acts like he's shit and such a burden to the team even when he gets called up to the majors! And Baker's 3rd personality swap didn't feel consistent.
