I need to preface this review by saying I know nothing about baseball and I do not care about baseball. So I struggled with all things baseball in this book. However, I loved everything else. I loved Gene, with his optimism and joy and his love for his career. He puts his all into everything he does, and while he may struggle with his self confidence over the course of the book, he never doubts his self worth. Gene also knows what he wants from his life, in love and in baseball. And he is just all around such a sweet, kind person, and he deserves the world. Luis is the perfect compliment for him, on and off the field. I loved that there was a bit of a past between Gene and Luis in college to build from. I do wish we got Luis’s perspective, but we still got his development as he figured out his future path. I also loved the rest of the Beaverton Beavers, especially Vince. Though I thought that Gene and Vince’s relationship got neglected as the book went on, until the end. I loved the end so much and it felt so perfect for the characters. So overall I highly recommend!
