Archeologist works with police detective and finds more than either of them expects where ocean meets sky. Darker than I am used to, not being able to trust anyone.

Descriptive overkill - rather than getting a sense of the scene, you get a sense of the author trying to set the scene.

The first in this series about a forensic archaeologist who helps solve crimes. I’m not sure where the series will go from here, but the main character is flawed and complex enough that I am already planning to return the next in the series.

I'm hooked. Complex characters. Great storytelling. References to literature, history, geography, mythology. A lead female character who is intelligent, accomplished, and flawed. A compelling distraction, and a perfect series to start during this time of sheltering-in-place.
