emotional reflective sad slow-paced

A pretty much perfect collection about the months and years following a divorce (though, as someone who went through a breakup that felt very monumental at the time, this was also extremely relatable in that sense). Absolutely my favorite collection of Olds that I’ve read.

every so often i would stop reading because a certain line would really touch me. and that's when you know it's good poetry.

re-read this after reading Strike Sparks

There are some stunning poems in this collection. It was also riveting to read the story of a divorce in poetry.

Accessible and devastating, this really sticks to one subject.

Every poet puts something of him/herself into their poetry. Even if it is just a little. Olds puts her entire divorce in "Stag's Leap". Although I am not fond of it, this book is confessional poetry at its finest. A truly stellar masterpiece that touched a part of my heart. To say that it is "palpable" or "moving" is perhaps an understatement.

Popsugar 2021: A book about forgetting.

Tremendous.
