I really enjoyed this; I was expecting to like it the least out of the series so far, and that might even be true, I'm not sure. But I really loved getting to see a closer look at humans in this world, and a deep look into so many perspectives.

I was caught off-guard by
the sudden death of one of the characters, and I found it really sad and moving. I'd like to think he'd appreciate the center set up after that though, for people like him in the future.

I'm sad I only have one more book in this series, and want to spend as much time in this world as possible.

I was expecting more of an emotional punch with the ending of this one like I got in A Closed and Common Orbit, but alas I didn't get that here.

Rep: WLW octogenarian couple, achillean male MC, queer-normative world, several alien races.

CWs: Alcohol consumption, death and mass death, drug use, grief, mental illness (PTSD), consensual sexual content.

I love these books because the detail is so well thought out, almost all of the tech and traditions make such logical sense. The detail is incredible, the descriptions are entrancing, and the characters are relatable. I'm sad I only have one more in the series, but I'll be keeping an eye on Becky Chambers for new releases in the future.

This moved slower than the previous two books did for me, but was a reflective exploration of what it means to be human, where we come from and where to go.

Onto the last!

I think I like each book of the Wayfarers more than the last. There's just something so beautiful about the way Chambers balances how her cast of characters deals with the clash of a desire for change and new with the desire for things to remain as they are. It's another quiet scifi novel. There are barely any aliens in this one, but there are so many big themes of belonging and home and purpose and I just love it. That's not to say that there is nothing that happens (they most certainly do!), but like the rest of the Wayfarer series, it's just so much more focused on the ways that beings relate to one another and their place in the universe.
