The amount of times I predicted what happened was too many, yet I never would have guessed that would have been what happened. It's truly a great thriller book, but SHE DIDN'T GET THE GUY!!?!?!

4.5/5 ִ໋

Omg. Omg. Fucking amazing. So sad but. Amazing. The Carter reveal was so unexpected. The way the brothers went down together. Ash leaving. Holly Jackson you smartass- this was probably one of the best books I’ve read this year- I forgot how good crime-thriller books are! This is the first hardback I’ve ever read and owned, and it was unexplainable. I have to read five survive SOON. Good job holly!!! Amazing book.

WOW WOW WOWWWWWW
THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE
I WAS SCREAMINGGGGG
MIGHT HONESTLY BE MY NEW FAVORITE BOOK
AHHHHHHHHH
READ ITTTTT

warning: there are too many f bombs :(

I liked our protagonist Bel but honestly everyone else was fairly minimally present to the point where none of them stood out - even Ash was only memorable for his clothes (which accounted for at least 87% of his personality). But that’s fine; Bel carried the story, and I think that was intentional. Because if we scrutinized anyone at all, I think we would have seen through the whole thing.

The center chunk of the book (~25-75%) was a bit of a slog as poor Bel gets gaslit and terrorizes Ash and Rachel is sketchy and no one else exists as more than props. Then when we do get reveals and some action, it comes hard and fast - primarily in a dialogue heavy infodump (more of a monologue). The twists weren’t laid out very well, which left them feeling kinda half baked.

But it made for easy reading.
