omg this was so bad. the problem with remixing an old novel is that it changes everything!!! it's not just the genius of jane eyre with a sprinkling of sex scenes–the sex scenes change everything about the story. they change jane's character. she is no longer likable. she's no longer naïve, no longer isolated. she has voiced desires.
when they have sex before they're married, the whole repenting scene where mr. rochester tries to get her to stay makes no sense! if marriage doesn't matter, then her decision to leave him doesn't track! if she still loves him, why would she leave? because he lied to her? puh-lease.
and i hated the ending. so white-feminist 'i'm an empowered woman.' makes mr. rochester look like an abuser (and i'm really not trying to defend him!); cheapens the whole story and makes her look stupid. sigh. can't any romance novel be written well?!
also it's so clear the parts that sinclair contributed. bronte was such a good writer!! sinclair used the word "dominatrix." what?!!
all in all, the yearning is what propels jane eyre forward, and if you take that away, it falls apart.

- cannot physically give it more than two stars because it was TERRIBLE but i had sm fun. apart from when i started feeling ill bc the sex was... icky
- why did they do it on a HORSE
- incest ??????? wdym berthas cousin was in love with her
- champion of the lgbts
- maybe one day i'll see it in poundland
- i think its very funny how half of it is literally copied and pasted from the original
- jack edwards i am so sorry
- LOVED the ending rochester deserves to suffer. it was the best part dont listen to all the reviews
- the plot twist was SO FUNNY i started laughing
- if i can get through this i can start reading classics and be pretentious

overall: 1.5 stars. i dont know why i read this. it was awful but also not the worst book ive ever read. it was just so strange that it was funny

The story begins with her traveling to Thornfield, and it does not end in the same place as the original Jane Eyre as well. The language was appropriate, I felt, but at the same time it was like sloshing through a lot of nothing. Which I found odd, for what this is. I was curious how one turns a classic story (that I really like) and makes it erotic (not too familiar with this sort of literature). It was not very well integrated, I don't think. Perhaps this type of literature isn't for me.

What did I just read?

A strange 'blend' of classic and erotica, poor writing and on a, dare I say it, a boring classic base. (sorry Jane Eyre fans, but the original isn't good either)

The ending was terrible, doing the complete opposite would have increased my rating by 0.5 stars.

Not giving this a star rating. I DNF'd this around the scene where Rochester's bed catches on fire.
Spoiled the (god-awful) ending and decided to spare myself the frustration of reading through the rest.

As a massive Jane Eyre fan, I'm disappointed that I don't get some sweet Jane/Rochester moments. Had such high hopes for this..
Oh well.

Sex. So much sex. I mean, that's probably what was happening at the time with all those "ladies of leisure"...

BUT the reveal with Bertha Mason felt rushed and wedged in there. From that point onward, the book kinda lost me.

Awful. At least she grew a backbone by the end of it and luckily it was quite a quick read....
