It was interesting to me how relevant this book was considering it's about immigration and it was written over 20 years ago. The author spends time with various groups of migrant workers and writes an interesting account of his experiences with them. I liked his personal style more than his writing style. I appreciated his general attitude and open mind to new experiences. Good book.

Coyotes is the second Conover book I've read. While the first one, Rolling Nowhere, was better, Coyotes still had a lot to offer. His journalistic journey to become a friend and co-worker with Mexican illegals humanizes the issue of Mexican emigration to the States for work. He also manages to keep a balanced perspective, never villianizing the workers nor their bosses nor even the coyotes themselves who help the Mexicans cross the border. This book is eye opening, interesting, and the writing is not half bad either. Considering that it was written in the late 1980's, it is amazing how relevant it continues to be today. I doubt a whole lot has changed to the immigration landscape since then.

Interesting points of view about a touchy subject, humorous in places, touching in others, very well written journalism. I am aware that the sentence is a run-on sentence. However, as controversial of a topic this is, it's not as interesting to me as other topics are, and the writing isn't that good that I loved it.
