4.25/5. really enjoyed this one. It made me laugh, feel butterflies, self-insert, feel outraged for the characters, etc. (fuck you Robby and Taylor). I loved the love that was present in the family of Jack and the warmth he himself had that just reached Hannah. I loved the plots that involved Hannah and Jack being vulnerable with one another as well as Jack and Hank finally making up. There were definitely tender moments that made me tear up and feel for the characters. I loved the ranch and the scene with Jack’s family.

There are scenes though that are cringey and felt far-fetched. I didn't like that Jack was instantly smitten with her. In the beginning (even until the end actually), I never FULLY felt as if jack was a well fleshed out character. He just felt like Mr. Perfect. It would have been great if we got to see more of him slowly growing feelings for her.

Whenever she gushed about him being a movie star and/or raving about his looks, it really took me out of the story. The last 20% of the book just took me out of it, too, because of how out of pocket it was. Some paragraphs felt more preachy and a self-insert by the author rather than being an important part of the book but given that this was made during the pandemic, I could see why the author would make that choice despite it being a little far-fetched.
Besides for the last 20%, I could have been fine with the cringe from everything beforehand.

Overall, it was a really good book and I enjoyed my time reading this one and had so much fun doing so

This was a nice, sweet, quick romance. It follows Hannah Brooks, who has been hired to be a bodyguard for the mega-famous and equally handsome Jack Stapleton as he returns home while his mother is recovering from cancer. Hijinks ensue and soon she has to pretend to be his girlfriend and live at his family's ranch for a few weeks. Sadly, there was only one bed but she slept on the floor.

For the most part, I enjoyed these characters. I didn't always buy into their motivations and that made it hard for me to fully fall into this book, but they were funny, their connection felt genuine, and the romance was sweet. I loved the idea that the woman was the one (mostly) looking out for the man but I also loved the moments where he looked out for her.

This book didn't fully pass my escape test, but I did enjoy it. I recommend for people who love subverted tropes, tortured golden boys, and secret horse tricks.

This was a cute rom-com. I liked the way the FMC point of view was written. She had a very, humorous tons that I enjoyed. I wished this was a little bit longer and showed the development of the relationship further. At one point it felt like a movie montage in a rom-com where they show scenes of the couple doing things and clearly falling in love. But that's not what I want in a novel. Give me the dialog and interactions. It was a light read and had some nice emotional moments.

Additional note: this is a fade to black romance. There is no spice.
