Beautiful Detail of a Strong Woman

A beautiful biography about a strong Christian woman I knew very little about. This would be excellent for young readers.

Strength. Opening. Light.

A great introduction to Harriet Tubmans journey from her time as a slave to her death as one of the strongest and most persistent conductors on the underground railroad. Amazing the things she did and with how little she did them. Pure strength of character, and the author does a wonderful job of not detailing the reader to death. The story is enough to give you knowledge and insight, and a foundation for exploration if you want more. Incredible woman, good read.

I recently saw the movie Harriett which is about Harriett Tubman. This is a biography writte for the middle school level. So it is a little more simple that a full-length scholarly biography would be. You do get a sense for the amazing person Tubman was and the impact she had on those around her. The bulk of the book is on her earlier life and escape to freedom along with her work on the undground railroad. There is not very much here of her life after the underground railroad. She lived more than 50 years after those experiences and had many other accomplishments to her name.

I read this book in a day out of necessity caused by procrastination, so my view of the book is admittedly a little warped. I enjoyed the information given, but the way it was presented made it more tedious to read in one day than other biographies I've read.
