Yes it was so good I learned a lot the only annoying bit was toward the end when there was a bunch of letters and it was difficult to read, but other than that everyone who wants to know about her should read thissss

The new version with a Kadir Nelson cover and a foreword by Jason Reynolds prompted me to check this out, but it's really the story of Harriet Tubman herself that outshines either of those recent additions. Her life story is just remarkable. Of course I knew that, but reading the details is rather sobering.

While I didn't always like the author's style of writing, I was able to overlook that completely because the story was so captivating. I remember learning that Harriet Tubman was a conductor on the Underground Railroad, but I don't think I understood the gravity of risking her life so many times. And then her work during the Civil War (I'm nearly certain I was never taught this in school)!!! This book has only a short chapter on that work, but I want to know more! I collected names and sources from Petry as a read and will be reading these works as well.

Didn't realize when I ordered this book from Amazon that it was a children's book. With that in mind, I think, covers the basics. Informative for such a short book. I would recommend to any child that is interested in history.

I've read a Harriet Tubman book before back in 6th grade. Reading this one feels like coming home. I can compare what happened in the slavery in America to what my ancestors suffered when we were under the rule of Spain. I recommend this book to readers of all ages.

Read this (alongside my own reading of Sarah Bradford's book on Harriet) with my 10 year old for our mom-daughter middle-grade bookclub - and I have rated it as a middle-grade book and whether it serves its purpose as such and whether it was informative/enjoyable for my daughter. We both learned a lot about the extraordinary woman and hero that Harriet was and we loved reading about her family and childhood.

I wish I had known what a right badass Harriet Tubman was when I was in school!! This book is a bit repetitive, but full of beautiful imagery that puts you right in the action. My kids loved it!!

This book is kind of hard to rate. Mainly because it is a middle grade book, and I am not part of the target audience. The story is told simply for kids in the age group it's meant for. I do plan on having my daughter read it when she is able to understand it.
