reading this made me really pensive. The protagonist is on the one hand something that i'd describe as my biggest fear (not really living my live but just moving along via external factors, not choosing a single thing on my own), on the other hand her realising it and trying to actually be in charge of her life.
idk i'm generally rather down atm, but the book had a very quietly sad vibe to me

Really intimate portrayal of PTSD and loneliness. Some parts in the middle lagged for me, and I would have liked a bit more of Fuyuko at the end, but overall this was heartbreaking and thoughtful.

I want to bathe in Mieko Kawakami’s prose. She’s brilliant I could honestly read this book over and over again and let it hurt my feelings until the end of the world.
The amount of pain? The philosophy? The way she made me interested in physics?!
The narration style and character description are incredible and so poetic. I can’t get Mitsutsuka and Fuyuko out of my head and heart, they are permanent residents.
