This was basically The Hate U Give but with witches. Both books have a plot deadline for the characters which I find bogs they down in the middle and gives a lot of whiplash with the events at the end that need to happen before the deadline.
I do like the magic system and the analogy between the discrimination the Witchers face and black Americans’ struggles. I just was hoping for a bit more.

I generally liked this, though it's too long. The middle has too many scenes that aren't bad, but they don't reveal anything new to really move things forward. With four hours left to go, I found myself checking to see if we were near the end.
That said, the magic is cool, the characters and their dynamics are interesting, and the world building makes it all come together.
As an aside, the main character responds to emotional distress by vomiting an oddly high number of times. I counted five when I started counting.
