Oh the cover is absolutely beautiful!
And the blurb made me think that it was a book like the Secret History or something along those lines.
Maybe it was me, assuming it was similar to a book like that, which in the end let me down a bit.
This book was just.... very slow. And the story was nothing like I expected it to be. It was overall a nice story but yeah, just not what I expected

Very slow, came a bit of a slog to read. The mystery was p easy to figure out, especially since I've read a couple other books from Jane Healey. I eventually skipped forward and confirmed the mystery but didn't really feel the need to actually keep going.

A tragically beautiful portrayal of girlhood transitioning into adulthood, of the myriad hurricane of emotions that teenage girls face, and of a mother and a daughter (re)discovering themselves and each other

V well done exploration of the predatory male gaze vs the (queer) female gaze, art, womanhood and family dynamics in this slow-paced, oppressive-heatwave-at-the-end-of-summer kind of a novel. The most mic drop of ending lines too.
