so i read the first book in this series like two years ago, and it was everything to me. i picked up this one when i was at a bookstore a couple months ago bc i wanted something cozy and fun for October (which i didn't rlly get to read during bc school), and this fully delivered. every book has its ups and downs, but this was what i needed it to be.
firstly, i will say there was a satisfying payoff with the relationship that this story had as its b-plot. rowan and issa really didn't like each other, but i was SO glad when they finally got together. it felt earned. the enemies to friends to lovers pipeline really got me here.
next, i would say issa's panic attacks made her SO relatable to me. i felt like i related to her deeply in my soul more than any character in the first one. in payback's a witch, i related to talia the most, which makes sense, and now with our fmc being an avramov, i definitely feel way more connected to the story than before. not that i wasn't connected, but this one was way more enticing to me.
the twist at the end makes sense but also could've been done differently. i think it works, but there should've been more clues i think earlier in the story for it to make sense. i feel like they should've planted more seeds for it in earlier chapters. not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely something to consider.
overall, i would wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who's interested in witchy stories and anyone who's read the first one! you don't have to read the first one for this to make sense, but it would definitely paint a better picture if you read that one first. still so good and definitely worth the read!

I think I might actually like this more than the first one? The romance still felt a little underdeveloped but I really enjoyed the mystery plotline (more than the tournament in the first book.)

I love the world being created here. Whole is didn’t connect with this couple as well as I did with the first book I really enjoyed the story. I love that we get to see new and old characters in this book and am excited to keep reading
