This is a funny thriller book that it seems to be happening in a theatre, because everything happening is on the same train.

I can't talk much about this book without spoiling, but, omg, the characters are amazing and the plot twist too.

Highly recommend.

Oh boy I really didn’t like this. I wish I DNFed, but there was enough to keep me going and I intend on watching the movie soon, so I pushed through in order to make accurate comparisons.

I hated all of the characters. Obviously they’re not meant to be good people, but I mean that I hated how they were written. Tangerine and his EXCESSIVE goings-on about Thomas and Friends started as endearing but turned out to be just incredibly annoying, regardless of how it served the plot in the end. The Prince was just awful. He’s meant to be, but instead of finding his mindset and philosophies interesting, I mostly found them to be irritating.
I don’t think I’ve ever rooted for a child to be killed before, but I’m very disappointed we didn’t get the satisfaction of seeing him killed.
Nanao was fine, but he couldn’t shut up about his bad luck. It was important for it to be established, but unnecessary to be mentioned on every single page. Yuichi Kimura was the one I felt the most sympathy for.

Ultimately I was left feeling underwhelmed with the ending and feeling like I wasted my time.

This was a super fun popcorn movie of a thriller about several assassins and other shady types all trying to complete their missions on one crazy train ride. The characters are all larger than life and feel bold and unique. The tension never lets up and every tiny detail that ever comes up is tied up perfectly by the end.

I would have given this 5 stars but there's a minor side character who, while I enjoyed her, was constantly assailed by transmisogynist jokes and that bugged me. I'm hoping that gets fixed in the upcoming film version.

quite literally a train station novel, one that you pick up at the kiosk and put down at the end of your journey, so much fun and fast paced goodness, tight action scenes, great character dynamics, perfect blend of entertainment and cathartic violence and im intrigued to see how the screen adaptation works out
i would've given this four stars but the presence of transphobia, especially the way it's "used" in the book really undercut my enjoyment, so be mindful of that before picking it up

I received an eARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

I wanted to like it from the summary. I didn't really click with it, but finished it anyways just to see what the conclusion was. I was pretty happy with it. I think there was more fighting scenes than I cared for, but that's a personal issue rather than a problem with the book. At times the plot does feel contrived. I think I would enjoy this more as a action movie. It was fairly slow paced. The writing was alright, it's well translated. I think my least favorite character is The Prince. Imagine that guy from Death Note but much younger and just as edgy.
