Jesse Thistle’s memoir is searing. It is the kind of book that makes you see your world, your country, your community, strangers and those you love - with clearer vision. There is power in the often straightforward way Thistle communicates his past to us, and as he does, he challenges stereotypes one by one, with candor and courage. I listened to this book and hearing Thistle read his work added to the intensity and impact of his life story. Difficult and highly recommended.

If you’re looking at reviews wondering if you should read this book- stop and DO IT! Despite some upsetting subject matter I could not put this book down. The author has done a superb job of showing the many sides of addiction and homelessness in Canada. A truly excellent and very worth-while read that has stuck with me.
