I think I wanted to like this book too much and then I got my hopes up and that just ruined it for me. It was good but it just wasn't that great. One; it was very, very slow. It didn't start getting interesting until like 60% into it and then stopped being interesting 80% into. Yeah... Thats not good. I don't know. I like the characters. I just don't think they were well developed. I don't really know how else to explain how I felt about the story. I felt like it could have been amazing, it just wasn't. I will read the next one eventually. Just because I already have a copy of it. but it may not be for awhile.
There were things I liked about this book. Kyra's maternal, good-natured heart was delightful and sweet. And her determination to keep her found-family safe. But frankly she was also an idiot. Often. And for being someone raised on the streets, I found that very questionable. Her quickness to fall for *ahem* trust the two main male leads in this story didn't make much sense.
Also, I felt like the world was out in the edges of our periphery but we're never really allowed to see or learn about it, which was very disappointing. I wanted to learn more about this series, but we were never given real information to work with.
Overall an okay read, but will probably not continue.

it wasn't one of my favorite books, but it was enjoyable even though it was kind of slow. the ending was meh...
Midnight Thief was not the story I originally expected, but it was loads better than I could have ever imagined and I adored every second of it!
Kyra is such an interesting protagonist to follow. Regardless of where she's from, she holds of confidence about herself and has a huge heart for those close to her. Plus her bravery and the situations she gets herself into, she handles with hardly any fear and just takes fate as it's given to her. I really liked her story and I'm excited to see how things play out for her in future books...and of course what more trouble she can get into!
As Kyra fell under James' spell, so did I and just like her I knew it was wrong but there's something about James that you just cannot help yourself but to fall for him. He's cold, and tough, and brutal...but in his own way intense and sexy, too. There were moments when I thought he may not be so bad, but you can never trust the ruthless ones, can you?
Then there's Tristam...I adore this boy. First off he's "a head and shoulder" taller than Kyra, aka super tall which is loads of hot in my book. Plus, he's a knight, a well trained built one *eyebrow wiggle*! I liked how he always followed his duty but at the same time used his heart to do what's right. He's got that whole hero, good guy thing going for him and who am I kidding...I'm a complete sucker for that. Hoping to see tons more of this hunk in future books!
The other fellas I adore were Flick and Martin! These two seriously just do no wrong in my eyes. They're both sweet, hardworking, have sense of humors, and their hearts are always in the right place.
With Midnight Thief, I really like how all of the different groups and set-ups weave together with Kyra as their key. More than that though, each group had their good sides, bad sides, betrayals, and intense moments. It was so intriguing to see everything tangle together and I adored the concepts in this intense fantasy! Overall, absolutely loved it and will definitely be awaiting the next book!!

The main plot twist was super predictable but not really that big of a deal. Still super fun
This was just a fun book. Thieves, assassins, historically places
Recommended to fans of: "His Fair Assassin" series, the "Graceling" books, and "The Ascendance Trilogy."

1.5 stars.
This book started out promising, especially with a nice little blurb. Instead, though, what we get is quite disappointing.
Kyra was the biggest thing that turned me off about this book. She's supposed to be this really good thief but it never really seemed like the author captured that aspect of her character. And she just didn't seem very mature about things . . . and my goodness, girl, pick and side and stay with it! Her constantly changing allegiances kind of annoyed me.
Also, the somewhat love triangle, but ultimately underdeveloped romance was pretty bad, too.
Setting? What setting? Yeah, not so much in this story. Maybe I could excuse it if it had a nice plot or interesting characters . . . alas, there was no such thing.
So yeah. Nothing particularly good here, peeps. Moving on.
