In the introduction to this collection Asimov laments the fact that Nightfall has always been considered his master piece and none of his later short stories ever got as much recognition. He would have liked to convince the reader that some of his other stories were just as good. Unfortunately however, none of the other stories here even come close to Nightfall. There are some that are pretty good and some more that are pretty forgettable (particularly in the second half). His interludes, on the other hand, I found actually quite endearing. Kind of charming when a man with so much recognition to his name is still so insecure about the quality of his writing.

This is an excellent story collection for anyone who was ever curious about Asimov, but a bit intimidated by his longer series and philosophical works. Since they were published in 1950s sci-fi magazines, they are products of their time and intended audience. Most of them have a Twilight Zone-like twist that you'll start to anticipate before the end. Some are dark and foreboding. Others have a delightful sense of humor.

Nightfall and green patches were standout. Eyes do more than see was poetic and featured transhumanist creatures like "the last question"

Nightfall is an all time great sci fi story. The rest of the stories are an adventurous collection of early sci fi from one of the greats. With an informative preface before every story.
