The colloquialisms went over my head some of the time but besides that this was a fun read! I liked the overall plot and witty remarks throughout.

At times absurd and entertaining, but I couldn’t find the charm that others spoke of in regard to the main character.
Enjoyable, but dragged a little towards the end. Despite the fact that marrying Charis off was a major plot point, I grew somewhat bored of it about halfway through the book and just wanted Frederica and Alverstoke to get on with it.
That said, I would happily read more Heyer and am seeking recommendations. :)

Frederica by Georgette Heyer is a Regency romance by the master at the height of her powers. It’s a delightful story of a young woman determined to take care of her younger siblings with no thought to her own future. She enlists the aid of a distant cousin her father once spoke highly of.
Although Lord Alverstoke is not a man who will normally go out of his way to be kind and helpful for anyone, he finds himself wanting to help Frederica. To his astonishment he takes a great interest in her young brothers, and he finds Frederica more and more engaging as he comes to know her as well.
The plot moves along, and there are some wonderfully amusing scenes (including one early on in which the mongrel dog owned by the siblings causes trouble and has to be rescued by the distinguished Marquis). Frederica is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys Regency or other historical romances.

A hilarious read this writer really mastered that old snobby ,ton humour ,no one else compares!

An enjoyable read! I liked the sibling dynamics, and Frederica was charming and witty and clever. The age gap was a bit much for me, but not enough to spoil the whole book. Seeing Alverstoke grow to care for the younger boys was sweet, and I love Felix and his poor orphan act and the hijinks he gets up to - and Jessamy’s love and admiration for his sister!
One of my favorite Heyer novels. Frederica and her brothers and sisters manage to effectively shake up their cousin's rather boring life with hilarious and wonderful results.
Such a sweet story. Lord Alverstoke is rich, selfish and spoiled. He never goes out of his way for anybody, least of all his family, because he has never had to. But when he meets Frederica, and her family, and immediately starts rescuing them from scrapes, his selfishness becomes non-existent.
I loved how he adopted the role of guardian (and father-figure) to Frederica's youngest brothers. All of the mischief her family got into was quite amusing too.
More flawed characters that you can't help but love! I think that's why I enjoy Heyer's books so much. Usually the characters in many books are too perfect and it just doesn't relate to reality. Learning to love someone despite their imperfections are what her books, and life, are all about.
