For 80% of this book I had the distinct feeling that something's missing. The last 20% blew my mind.

This is my first encounter with Rushdie's writing. Crisp and clean most of the times, cluttered and foggy at some chosen pauses. The Golden House details a side of America during Obama's presidencies and paints a vivid portrait of Trump's ascent to power. It's a big novel, and it's a slowburn, but once it grips you, you can't really put it down.

The Museum of Identity is too engaged with that lie.

Не пам’ятаю, коли в останній раз читала щось схоже, але це щось мені сподобалось. Ніби ти переходиш від планіметрії до стереометрії і дивишся вже на фігури в тривимірному просторі, більш об‘ємно.

А об’єм додається безліччю прийомів: утотожнювання героїв і сюжету античності; посилання на міфологію; змальовування деяких епізодів у вигляді сценарію, а деяких у вигляді уже знятих кадрів; присутньою була й певна театральність з характерною гіперболізацією; постійни відсилки до реального політичного і соціального життя; мільйон символізмів.

За своєю суттю це сімейна детективна (місцями) драма з очікуваним сюжетом, але її дуже незвично загорнули в деталі й подали нам.

Проте забагато було в другій половині книги всіляких відсилок до фільмів, режисерів і т.д, для мене це все було занадто задротським, що втомлювало. І вже не було навіть бажання гуглити. Тільки тому тут не 5. Але це скоріше 4.5:)

I thought, oh, a new Rushdie, maybe I'll like this one better. it's been years since I read one, so maybe. nope. this, to me, wasn't any better than the others. too confusing, too disjointed, too unnecessarily detailed, too much.
