I got this book thinking it would be something like an adventure/mystery with, of course, some bureaucracy thrown in. It's not exactly that but I was still intrigued the whole way through. It's more of a socio-political, philosophical study. Not something you would assume would be intriguing? Give it a try - Kaiser's investigation, writing and commitment to his quest and the story of it will pull you in and keep you there.
Interesting? I definitely learned some things but also it was very tangential at times. Like TOO MUCH meta-awareness
I wanted to be taken on a journey with the author to find his roots and take back his grandfather’s property. What happened was unsatisfactory ending that disappointed. Why write a book before the ending takes place?

An odd book. Can't quite justify the metafictional spin in the second half, but Kaiser is definitely a talented writer and the first part is exceptional.
The grandson of a holocaust survivor navigates his family, the Polish government, populism, communism, treasure hunters, and more to attempt to reclaim the home his grandfather lost after being sent to a concentration camp.
An interesting premise that lives up to the subject matter.

If this book had a different title and description, I might have rated it differently. An interesting story of search and discovery of what was lost in the Holocaust.
