Three characters are followed during their pointless jobs at a factory that makes an unknown thing, unimportant to the story. Highlights the lack of importance of work to life. It is an interesting and fast read but I was unable to get invested in the stories and its weird ending didn’t pay off for me.
This book felt like it was trying to do something, but it wasn't clear to me what that was. I'm fine with weirdness but this was miserable weirdness. None of the characters we follow in the factory actually want to work at the factory. They're doing something, but they're very clearly not fulfilled. Maybe it's a statement on the existence of bullshit jobs that exist just for the sake of existing but don't contribute to society. Reading this book felt like working at the factory, it didn't really make sense for the most part, and while I did read page after page, it still didn't feel like the story was progressing. There are things that come up, possible plot points, that are never resolved. Nothing is resolved really. I'm glad this was short at least because that was time I'll never get back. Not the worst book I've ever read, but it didn't have anything I really liked in it either.

maybe it was a translation thing, but the narratives flipping back and forth with no voice distinction made it so hard to follow. while i think i could have enjoyed the surrealism and general mundanity that this novel brought up, the structure was just too much for me to truly get into it.
