my ocean vuong expectations are way too high after NSWEW. I did enjoy this book i think i shouldn't have compared it to his previous work. need to reread with fresh eyes.

I usually love Ocean's prose but this time I only enjoyed like half of the poems.

Wow. Ocean Vuong has such an outstanding way with words. What an incredibly powerful anthology he has created - sad, reflective, grieving and finally, hopeful.

My favourite poems were ‘Amazon History of a Former Nail Salon Worker’, ‘Woodworking at the End of the World’ and ‘Künstlerroman’.

I must admit that I am very new to poetry, so some of the writing definitely went over my head. Despite that, the precision and care in Vuong’s craft was both distinctly evident and admirable.
