I don't typically read memoirs, but I'm glad I picked this one up because it was well worth the read. Such a well put together rallying cry for social and racial justice. Inspiring and emotional to read, Sarsour's earnest and dedicated activist work inspires and empowers the reader to always take a stand, to never be the bystander.

While much of what she talked about were things I was already familiar with, the experiences she described directly after 9/11 was something that I had no idea about. Being Canadian and born post-9/11, I knew of the islamophobia and racism that came afterwards but the sheer extent of it was unknown to me. Sarsour covers this period of time and details the injustices carried out, from profiling to the missing Muslim men and deportations.

I'm not the expert on memoirs, but this seemed like a pretty good one to me and I'd certainly recommend giving it a try.

Linda Sarsour is certainly not a bystander. She has accomplished more in her young life than most folks in a lifetime - often in spite of serious challenges. She is best known for being one of the primary organizers of the women's march on Washington. Her memoir is an impassioned plea for all of us to work together to make our society more just and equitable. Written and read in her own voice, Linda's story is an important and inspirational one for our time.
