This is the second short story collection I’ve read from Jhumpa Lahiri & I feel just as impressed by this one as I did the other. Lahiri makes characters that feel so incredibly real, and rich. In just short stints with these characters we grow to know and love them, as well as grieve alongside them. Some stories made more of an impact on me than others, which is to be expected with any short story collection & not commentary on the quality of the book as a whole.

I would recommend Lahiri to anyone!

The entire book is excellent, but I particularly enjoyed "Unaccustomed Earth", "Hell-Heaven", and the Hema & Kaushik series of stories at the end.

This book was gorgeous, so gorgeous I could only read bits of it at a time. It was also incredibly depressing. I loved part two of the book, which was a novella of sorts about two people who know each other from childhood. I wanted it to end differently than it did, but I knew where it was going. I would definitely recommend it.
