This began well but was all smut and no substance.

I cant even attempt to take this seriously lol This was pretty cringy honestly. How is this so hyped? It’s probably just a me thing, I am not a fan of how this started, the insta-mate thing, and the floridian FMC. Despite that… I MIGHT, consider the second book in this series lol, because sometimes I like to suffer.

:hot_pepper: 4/5 This is spicy, I did not find it hot, I did like that he purred and has a sandpaper tongue, that was interesting. Also the description of the alien sounds hot, but the spice was not doing it for me here. One final peeve..
SpoilerI cannot stand “surprise” pregnancy trope, and from the second she was like “oh i can’t get interspecies prego” - I KNEW that was bullshit and it was coming.
No thank you.

*Note: mind the TWs early on there are a few rapey things and forced abortion, not too graphic, but it's supposed to add shock value, I'm sure.*

I’m so cooked

It had potential, for sci-fi smut. I liked the world building and Georgie's POV until everyone just... decided to stop trying to do anything other than boff hot alien dudes.

Not that boffing hot alien dudes is a bad thing, I'm a Bioware girlie and Garrus is my space boyfriend. But... y'all are just going to not try to escape this terrible planet? Or remove your bossy heartworm that removes your ability to actually consent?

Really, girls?

I got excited for book 2 because I thought maybe there'd be some interesting denouement and discussion about the premise and the idea of a parasite that basically undermines reproductive rights and turns dudes into potential rape monsters and by the way the planet is also "bitter" during the summer and "brutal" during the winter and that's generally a good thriller survival premise but... No.

I mean. Book two at least has a pairing that sasses one another. And the two oral scenes are incredibly steamy-- especially the second. And then there is whump and the FMC bypassing all MMC's expectations and being badass and caring for him (in this household we appreciate Liz) but then... things got rape-y and not hot and honestly sounded PAINFUL. They still wouldn't fucking talk to each other or explain their differences or what the worm was doing to either of them physiologically or mentally and just... I'm done. This could have been great, it had all these promising elements but they're just overpowered by all the ick. Ruby Dixon made the decision to subvert her characters' bodily autonomy and apparently that's supposed to be sexy but all it does is make me wonder if dying in the snow like the SA victim character did (justice for Dominique) was the better choice after all.

Ugh. Such potential. Dropping the series here.

Beam me up Scotty.

Loved it
