Meandering, cut-rate version of Stephen King's "The Body'.

This book. I loved it so much. I laughed and cried and hung on the edge of my seat. Brilliant story telling. It reminded me of why I fell in love with reading in the first place and why I hope to be a decent story teller someday. ❤️

Poignant. Thrilling. Enthralling. It’s essentially a coming of age novel set in the 60s South with horror, mystery, racism, segregation, spirituality, and death sprinkled with true evil personified by some real monsters- the Klu Klux Klan and Nazis. A New Favorite.

I liked this book, although it took me a long time to read it. I had to renew it twice from the library in order to finish it. Many of the chapters took me back to my childhood and the fun times spent with friends and neighbors. That is what I enjoyed most about this book . Another coming of age tale. On the other hand, this book could have ended much quicker than it did. Some of the story lines were unnecessary and feeble. A good read overall. If you have "free" time go ahead and read it.

I think I may have found my another favorite "horror" writer with Robert McCammon. I've been meaning to read "Boy's Life" for years, part of me kept thinking it might be too similar to Stephen King's "It". But, having just finished "Boy's Life" it is certainly a novel unto itself. A sprawling 600+page novel, "Boy's Life" covers about a year in the life of Cory Mackenson and the magical, scary events he experiences in early 1960's Zephyr, Alabama. The story revolves around a murder that Cory and his father witness. However, every chapter is a short story that can stand on their own. There are so many poignant passages in this book that really spoke to me. I have a feeling a lot of this book has elements of McCammon's own childhood. "Boy's Life" covers all the bases, touching on horror, crime, bullies, racism, monsters, Nazis and so much more. My adventure doesn't end here as this novel came in a collection with 3 other McCammon South novels.
