Confessions of a Domestic Failure: A Humorous Book about a Not-So-Perfect Mom

This was a slow start for me. So much of what Ashley was going through was so relatable to me as a stay at home mom. I've lived so much of her feelings. This Emily chick though, I just couldn't get my mind around her. She was over the top. There were parts of the book that irked me so much, gave me anxiety and made me want to put it down, but over all it was an enjoyable read.
I loved this book! I just had a child so it was the perfect light, fluffy read as I was feeding the baby or whole baby napped. I could absolutely relate to so many of the feelings and experiences in the book! Have already recommended and passed on to friends!

I picked this book up hoping that it would be an easy, fun read. It definitely was an easy read that I enjoyed. It is the story of Ashley who is a stay at home mom. To say that she is struggling is an understatement. She enters a contest hoping to change and be a happier and better mom. Shenanigans ensue. My major problem with this book was that I did not really like any of the characters. So while it was an easy and overall fun book, I just did not connect to anyone.
If nothing else this gave me confidence that I was paying attention during the 2000s even though they seem indistinguishable to me from the 2010s. Protagonist is going through Mommy Growing Pains right before the fashion industry gave up on maxi dresses, but just before it became obsessed with heavy eyebrows and false lashes for normal people.
Ashley is a Real Mom in a lot of ways, but it was painful too. Her idol the Motherhood BETTER blogger is definitely the Mom that every other Mom loves to hate. However, I think real moms would see right through a woman claiming a superior position when she has millions of dollars & a full staff at her disposal. (Although I suppose this didn't discourage fans of Martha Stewart.)
The most entertaining parts are all too real & sound unbelievable to me now even though I know they happen - I saw them when my kids were babies. Except possibly the part about moms consuming their own placenta...?? If I heard about that, I thought it was a joke. Warning: stories about just keeping an infant alive (let alone doing so competitively) may cause nausea.

A fun fluffy read with a lot of the voice you'll recognize if you follow Bunmi's social media channels. It's exactly what I expected. I would have appreciated it even more when my son was about 10 months old and I was more of a sleep deprived mess, but I still recognized the emotions and journey that Ashley was on. Glad to see the author's transition to fiction succeed, and hope she writes another.
Finally finished listening to this audiobook. Found it enjoyable. A lot of it was laugh out loud in its relatability
