3.5 AVERAGE

i'm reading this for work, but it makes me want to puke out my eyes.

update: ok, done. one thing i can say for it is that it didn't last that long. wait ... what? there are how many more of these?

to make it even shorter: morally reprehensible cretin rebecca something-or-other treats people horribly and gets away with it, all in the name of commerce.

Unpopular opinion but rewatching the movie after the finishing the book is funny to me considering in the book she just gets away with all of it and you know what.. I don’t actually care

Might be one of those rare situations where the movie was better than the book. It's a quick and light read, but was hard to relate to since it was set in England. It was pretty entertaining to read; I really liked the main character's inner dialogue as she was tempted to shop; very realistic.

However, I didn't like how abruptly the book ended. I didn't think it was realistic for the character to somehow solve all her problems without anyone finding out about it.

DID NOT FINISH

This main character has some troubling thoughts in her head and I do not want to read about it at all…

If you're the type to read about selfish impulsive fashionistas who buy shit they don't even NEED, dislikes her job as a journalist and dreams BIG, then this book is for you.

This centers on Rebecca Bloomwood, gold-digging shopaholic who "tries" her best to Cut Back on her money. And, well, seeing as I gave this 2 stars, you can tell that she fails at it. Many times. In a row. Like she ain't even trying! Many times in the book, she has embarrassed herself! I wouldn't call her an imbecile but... she's an imbecile. She's a compulsive liar, finds "love" in a guy's finances, and never. Quits. Buying.

It's hard to see how this is listed as humor when clearly, I've been gritting my teeth whenever Becky opens her mouth and her wallet. Oh wait! I take it back. I laughed when she got embarrassed in front of a line of people when her card was frozen. I laughed when she got embarrassed at her stupid little "table-hopping". And I laughed when she got fired from her job after hiding those jeans. Man, that was hilarious.

2 out of 5 stars. Would not recommend to people who take their protagonists seriously and not this ingrate who spends more than she needs to.

Light and funny, this was a fun novel. Kinsella takes us into the life of a flighty young woman, Rebecca. Rebecca, a financial journalist, has a hard time with her own finances, especially when it comes to curbing her spending. Her attempts to make extra money and skirt debt had be chuckling through pretty much the entire book.

In addition to her money problems, Rebecca weaves some creative tales about her personal, professional, financial, and even familial life that will have readers alternately shaking their heads and laughing.

i get why this is iconic, but i found the cycle of shop -> guilt -> in debt -> figure out some scheme to get out of debt temporarily -> fail to commit kinda repetitive after a while, and she kinda exhibited no character growth. but this book isnt meant to be deep so

for what it’s worth as a brainless distraction it did it’s job

i wish i could just shop without fear of the consequenses like she does :P
