I know this story has become a successful movie, but I didn't enjoy it much at all. I can't even say much about it, other than the humor was lost on me.

This girl gave me hope in my spending habits darn
her mentality! and how she gave herself rewards for being "good" lol absolutely hilarious
the bit where she made the curry had me in stitches, I couldn't read as I was laughing so hard
so it was good, the sad thing though is she never learns!
Four stars

Edit: It wasn't as funny the next time around lol I was just mostly very annoyed with her because why so wasteful?

This book is not going to change your life, but it's a perfect, fun escape. I really enjoyed it.

The story follows a young girl called Becky, she has a serious shopping problem and likes to avoid the bills that come through thinking that if she ignores them then they will go away. However as anyone knows, you cannot avoid bank bills as they continue to stack up and can become serious.

We follow Becky going through her daily life and seeing what she spends each day...which is actually quite a lot! At times she did become a little annoying as how could she clearly not see how much she was spending?! But that was just part of the story, we watched Becky mature and realise she needs to grow up and face her responsibilities. This book was immensely funny, you could so easily relate to her and I think that's why this book is so well liked. Pretty much everyone has avoided checking their balance as they know it won't be good. We have all seen a sale sign and brought things a little too expensive or things which we probably didn't need and will forget about as soon as we get home. Therefore the character of Becky is so down to earth and lovable, she has flaws. Sophie Kinsella hasn't tried to create a character which has a shopping problem but meets a rich guy who can afford to pay for her expensive habit, this is the real world where the bills still keep coming and no matter how much you dream of winning the lottery we both know it isn't really going to happen.

Confessions of a Shopaholic is a book I can heartily recommend if you're looking for a light read. It screams "beach read." I read it in a few hours. I did like the main character of Becky. I thought she was funny and she had a certain charm to her. I could relate to her obsession with shopping, although I'm glad mine doesn't go quite as far! The book is fast paced, and it genuinely did make me laugh out loud on quite a few occasions. Kinsella is quite a clever, articulate writer; I literally cringed for Becky at times. The author really got me caught up in the action; I felt as though I was there, spying on someone. Given how talented she is, I would like to Kinsella her try some serious fiction in the future.

The downside to this book is that it is very fluffy - more so than it needed to be. I understand that Kinsella was going for a comic novel, and I still believe she could've explored the issue of Becky's compulsive spending in a bit more depth. Even Bridget Jones was introspective at times. Kinsella didn't do that with Becky enough, and when she did it didn't ring true - it seemed tacked on. I found that the novel was predictable at times, although this didn't bother me as much as it has with other books.

In general, I think that this is a book that most single women in their 20s and early 30s will enjoy. It is fun, quick, and lighthearted. I would recommend buying the book used if you can, because it isn't the kind of book that I could imagine rereading. It's as light as air, or cotton candy, and once it's finished, it is easily forgotten.

Rating is purely nostalgia based - I had a absolute blast reading this back in the day.

A silly cute book. It was not life-changing but a good escape. Any book I can't put down and read in two days is a win. Just the light read I needed.

It's chick lit. What can I say?
