I’m a big Stephen King fan, but this book was just hard for me to get through. It took me over 3 months to finish it, and I had to get the audiobook to finish it. I think this is partly because of the shift in genre, King is definitely better at writing horror and suspense than true fantasy. I was planning on rating this 2 stars, but I finally found myself interested by the end!

This is still my favorite book by Stephen King. The fairytale is a change from his usual horror and suspense - although a certain Flagg is present. The story is long enough to let King's narrative skills take hold, but short enough to limit the reader's investment. Is it the best fairytale written? No. But it is delightful and one must not apologize for that which brings delight.

Het lezen van een Stephen King heb ik heel lang uitgesteld omdat ik een beetje overweldigd was door het imago van zijn oeuvre.
Wat ik nu ga schrijven is vast en zeker een onpopulaire mening, maar ik vond het tegenvallen.
De ogen van de draak 🐉 las als een sprookje, maar het miste voor mij de diepgang waarop ik had gehoopt. De volgende op mijn Stephen King stapel is Mr. Mercedes. Zou dat beter bevallen?
