Elizabeth O'Roark is my midas, and everything she touches turns gold.
I tried to collect my thoughts about this one, and I am still speechless.
There's something about Elizabeth's writing that will always and forever mesmerize me. The way she decides to develop their characters is beyond my writing skills to describe, and, in this particular book, every single one felt so real and raw.
'The Summer I first Saw You' is an age gap and a forbidden romance, but it's so much more than that. It's a story about two souls that, finally, found each other.
I love the romance, and the chemistry was amazing like Elizabeth does every single time.
But what truly took my breath away was how we could testify Harrison falling in love with Daisy and how she brought him back to life after everything was so dark in his life.
It's the little things that matter and see Daisy fighting for Harrison over and over again was superb to read.
When they truly let themselves love each other, the story becomes even more addictive. More beautiful. It's more real.
This book was a journey and the end of a series that I truly loved crossing paths with. A book that talks deeply to us about how we need to stop living for the others and start living for ourselves. It's an inspiration, and I really wish for everyone to find a Daisy who brings some light to our darkest moments and a Harrison to defend us when we are feeling defeated.
I will always love Elizabeth's storytelling, and I am already on the edge of my seat to see what she will bring to us next.

This is my favourite book of this series so far. I was engrossed in the story from the very first chapter. The moment Harrison saw Daisy, I knew they are going to be my favourite couple of this series. Elizabeth perfectly blended the age-gap and forbidden romance trope in this angsty and swoon-worthy story. She also managed to bring tears to my eyes with Daisy and Harrison's story, their past and how people broke their inner spirit. The story is emotional and vulnerable but it was also comforting and funny because of the dynamics between Harrison and Daisy.
Daisy was funny and outgoing and I immediately liked her. She was mature and always stood straight up to face the difficulties in her life. I liked how she got on Harrison's nerves with her antics and how she made him go crazy with her Yoga poses. I am glad she finally chose herself over her mother's ambitions for her. Harrison was sweet and thoughtful and he had perfect amount of grumpiness and cavenman qualities. He is my favourite mmc of this series and I liked how he admired Daisy and was still in denial for weeks. He was a goner for her the moment he saw her.
Daisy and Harrison had sizzling chemistry and delicious tension from the very first moment but they also had this emotional intimacy between them where they understood each other without even sharing their feelings and thoughts. Theu builded their relationship on a foundation of trust and sharing their vulnerabilities with each other. They knew what other person needed and they both cared for each other and showed it with their actions. I loved how Daisy made him food and made sure he was never alone and how Harrison made sure Daise was well taken care of in his house. He was jealous of anyone who even looked at her and it was endearing to see him go feral for her. I also liked how they developed trust and friendship before they started anything physical because it just showed how much they liked each other's company. Daisy fell first but Harrison fell harder for her.
I absolutely loved the ending and the extended epilogue. It was perfect for Daisy and Harrison.
“I don’t think I’ve ever known anyone who relishes life quite the way Daisy does.”

“It has to end—she and I are still in completely different places in life, and we will remain so for the next decade at least—but there’s a part of me that would give up everything to keep her with me forever.”

“There are a hundred people in the world who could detail my failures. It’s hard to care when Harrison, the best of them, likes me regardless.”

“Her smile—fuck. The way she smiles at me, and only me, is something I want to keep forever. And I want to keep it entirely to myself.”

I snagged this one in an @audible 2 for 1 deal after having read the beginning of this series. Per the usual, I went in blind.
Harrison hasn't thought twice about his buddy's niece Daisy since she was a little girl. Now that he's divorced, he's living alone in a beach house. Daisy has had a crush on him forever, despite their decade age difference. When she has the opportunity to blackmail him into letting her stay, she jumps at the opportunity. He tries to resist as long as he can, but Daisy uses every chance she can to make him crack.

This was good. Super angsty. I didn't really get the age hang up on Harrison's part. It's pretty mild. I liked it, but found Daisy a little immature.

This was so uncomfortable to read. I really liked the rest of the series and that's the only reason I didn't DNF. Age gap romance is not my favourite but I can enjoy them when done well. This one was not.
When MMC has known FMC since she was a baby it's already a thin line for me. When the author keeps repeating that he used to change her diapers and watch her eat sand (which they went out of their way to remind us every three chapters) it's so creepy that he could ever see her as a sexual being.
On top of the general ick, FMCs was so immature which added to the feeling that this man had no business seeing her as anything but the brat she was. In the beginning I empathised with FMC's resistance to going to law school just because her mom planned that out for her, but I later came to agree with the mom because FMC clearly had no goals for herself. All she wanted from life was to cook, surf and have babies. At 21 her only goal was to be a barefoot and pregnant kept woman. I...

If this wasn’t the angstiest thing I’ve ever read. It was completely addictive and I binge read it in less than a day. Daisy and Harrison were perfect for each other. She’s sassy, playful, and full of sunshine. Harrison is grumpy, jaded, and responsible. They have so much chemistry, but Harrison is adamant that he’s going to stay away from her and do the right thing. Daisy has had a crush on him for years, and does everything in her power to get him to give in. It was such a good slow burn! This is the perfect vacation read. It’s emotional, romantic, had complex dynamics, and just enough humor. Now I just need to go back and read the rest of the series!
