This colllection was so unsettling in the best way. I especially appreciated the focus on paranoia and abject fear, which Evenson writes so well. I’d like to remember this collection, too, for its title story: one of my students read it and it deeply affected him, which made me reread it and consider it in new ways. It made me appreciate the story on a different level. I was also deeply impacted by “Cult,” “Seaside Town,” “The Dust,” and “Click.”

Brilliant! If you're not read Brian Evenson you're missing out on one of the most original voices in horror fiction. He's Lovecraft without the super awkward racism.

Favourite stories in this collection:
Black Bark
The Dust
Any Corpse
I love Brian Evenson's short fiction because it's so unsettling and a type of horror that exists all in the extrapolations that the reader makes in between the lines.
