Third official Goodreads read, probably the fifth overall. I love this book. My first readings of it were so paltry, as a young man I took only those interesting and pithy phrases and missed his overarching point. The last two readings have truly helped me understand my faith better. Joy should define us, and an enduring sense of adventure should drive us. Go forth Christian, and live as becomes your maker.

Loved listening to this right after Heretics. This is such a powerful book. Easily makes my top-5 non-fiction list.

An interesting insight into one person's religious conversion. However, I did not agree with many of Chesterton's theological arguments and conclusions.

Chesterton disappointed me. Knowing he was an inspiration for CS Lewis--whom I completely adore--may have set my expectations too high. He is a profound and sometimes interesting writer, but his perspective and interpretations of Christianity did not resonate with me. I found him to be too much of a hardliner and not existential enough for me. I will shelf him for a while before I give him another try.

What it lacks in concentrated thesis in some parts, it makes up with sublime prose. What it lacks in sublime prose in some parts, it makes up for with sublime insight. A near masterwork in not only apologetics and theology, but the craft of thought.

Edit: since I felt to include it in another review, I feel it necessary to include it here as well: I find many flaws in Chesterton's book, not the least of which is his rhetoric on moral grounds, if nothing else. However, I find the entirety of the book interesting enough to read on its own merits, and I trust the average reader of this book to know well-enough to think for himself.

This book has had one of the biggest impacts on my life and made me think deeper than any other book I've ever read. Would highly recommend.
