A perfect summer read. Lighthearted and easy to read, the plot is beautifully told and very touching. Does not relate to some of the most well known Garcia Marquez’s novels because it lacks the magical realism elements, but still I really enjoyed it.

Un libro que se lee en un día. La historia en sí no me encantó, pero el estilo de escritura de García Márquez es tan característico, que me gustó mucho que hayan podido publicar esta última obra con ayuda de sus notas y su editor. Le da un toque muy interesante que hayan puesto al final unas páginas escaneadas de su borrador, con anotaciones de puño y letra.
Önce şunu söyleyerek başlamam lazım: Gabo'nun bende apayrı bir yeri olduğu için önyargılıyım; alışveriş listesini bassalar ona da 5 yıldız vermeye eğilimliyim. Uzun aradan sonra bir araya gelmek bana öyle iyi geldi ki... Bildiğim, özlediğim Gabo, evet, ama metinde tam kontrolü olmadığı da hissediliyor. Bununla kastettiğim de şu: oğulları önsözde Gabo'nun o dönemde bu kitabın bir işe yaramayacağını dile getirdiğini açık açık belirtmiş. "...bu kitap babamızın en önemli eserleri kadar cilalanmamış olabilir." Onlar dememiş olsa da benim gibi Gabo okurları bunu zaten hissedecektir. Ancak yine oğullarının önsözde dediği gibi "pürüzlere ve küçük çelişkilere sahip olsa da, Gabo'nun eserlerine özgü çarpıcı unsurlarla dolu içeriğinden keyif almayı engelleyen hiçbir şey yok."

I genuinely don’t agree with people that say this shouldn’t have been published (even if Gabo himself said this). It was a fun read, took me about an hour and a half to finish the book. Was it perfect? No, it definitely felt like it was missing something, but the ending was so absurd and unexpected that it was almost comical. I enjoyed it for a bit of light reading and would definitely recommend the book. You have to have in mind, it’s nothing like any other book you’ve read from him.
