holy shit, never had a book destroy me more than this one
took me a while to finish because it was so heartbreaking
i loved that the pov changed and we got to see the event through multiple characters
rots is the best and saddest sw movie, the novelization is just 10 times harder to get through
I mean these characters mean the world to me and seeing them not getting the happy ending they deserve really messed me up emotionally
definitely a tense and heartbreaking book but totally worth the read

Someone’s Star Wars obsession is back in full swing 😍😍😍. This is my new favourite book. I’ve never had a favourite book, I’ve only had a lot of books that I really liked but now this is 100000% my favourite book. I think it did a really good job portraying Anakin without making him fully evil and fully at fault but also without making him babied. He’s very confused and he’s manipulated but it’s also shown how part of it is his own choice. I think the book also did a really good job with multiple perspectives. The book is in third person but some segments focus on other characters and you kind of see what they’re thinking. I thought the author did a really good job because I could empathize with every character. For example, mace windu is a character I didn’t really notice that much to be significant as a character (like he’s cool but I didn’t care for the character) but now after his viewpoints I really like him. The aspect of this book and this story in general that I really enjoyed is his tragic it is. From the first page you know what’s going to happen, partially bc of the movie and partially bc the author tells you it’s a story of loss and tragedy. I feel like the inevitableness of every action and outcome really hurt. Also seeing Anakin get so close to Palpatine (literally my number one opp PALPATINE BETTER COUNT HJS DAYS) AHHH. Also, the last few pages are genuinely the best thing I have read. The whole “this is what it feels like to be Anakin” really hurt. And I think it did a really good job of making a distinction between Anakin and darth Vader but also have them be the same person. Like the entire dragon thing was super interesting bc it just shows how everyone has these fears but that they don’t define you unless you choose to let them. Anakin chose to let these fears define him and control him and he became darth Vader as a result. Like he’s not darth Vader imo but also he is. Also the way Anakin is a slave his entire life. The entire time I read this book the quote “man is born free and everywhere he is in chains” by Rousseau was running through my head. Overall, this book was devastating and emotional and just so good, so i think i will be rereading for sure. Honestly if i could give 6 stars i would. anyways i am really happy little grade 3 Adhya fell in love with anakin skywalker and Hayden Christensen bc now grade 12 Adhya gets to read really good books. Thank you pookie bear you are my favourite era of Adhya 😍😍😍.
Every time I reread this book, I love it more and more. Does everything I want and more when it comes to novelizations and media tie-in books. I love the way Stover incorporates some smaller mentions of things not in the movie (Ventress mention). Will always recommend this book!!!
Matthew Stover did an excellent job at creating this novelization. He expanded on what we know from the movie and added additional detail that made the story pop.
